Game won't start

Hi everyone!

Okay, here goes: I bought the game, I installed the Sims 3 and now it won't start. I can open the Game Launcher and use it, but when I click on "Play Sims 3", the screen goes black and I hear a... well, that sound that computers make when they can't do something. I see the Sim Game Cursor, but it never goes beyond simlish cursor on black screen. When I ctrl+alt+del myself out of it, I see an error message:

"unable to start game
service initialization failed (0x039c8474)"

Then I have to end the whole process, because Sims 3, according to my computer, doesn't react. I have a Windows Vista 64-bit, Service Pack 1, with Processor: 2.40 GHz and Memory (RAM): 8.00 GB. My graphics card is a ATI Radeon HD 3650, which, as sims-3.net tells me, EA said should be able to run the game.

ETA: Uninstalling and re-installing the game did the trick, it seems to work fine now.

Hi,

You know I had the same issue yesterday, but that was when I was trying to add the "censor remove" hack. Have you tampered with anything in the bin file? If not, the best thing right now is to uninstall the game and re-install it. Yes, what you have on your computer you can run Sims 3 with no problem.

As far as I can tell the Sims 3 game is very touchy :-(; kinda makes me nervous when they start with expansion packs.

No, I haven't touched anything inside the actual game folder.
Your comment makes me want to eat small puppies, because for some reason it took me an hour and a half to get this game on my computer in the first place - and removing seems to plan to be just as slow -, but you're right, I'll probably have to try this.

Thanks for the help!

Are your video drivers up to date? If you can get to the launcher, but the game dies when you run the game game, it's probably video.

Go to www.amd.com and download the latest if you haven't otherwise.

I checked that, too, but it seems all my drivers are up to date.

I re-installed the game, and now it works, so whatever was the problem hopefully fixed itself for good...

Thanks for the help!
